Waconda Lake is such a great story and beautiful spot in Kansas. We were fortunate enough to get to see BALD EAGLES fishing while sitting on the ice of the lake. We even got to see some of them pull fish from the water. We also got to see dozens of birds flying overhead. That happened in Cawker City, so maybe they were some of the same ones we could see at the lake.
The story of Waconda Springs is a touching and sentimental love story very much like Romeo and Juliet. It is unfortunate that the spring was not preserved in its original beauty. It was a natural phenomenon. Although the lake is absolutely gorgeous, it saddens me that the spring was buried with debris to make that happen. We appreciate being able to visit the site of the spring, but would have loved to be able to visit the spring itself. For history of the springs visit: http://www.glenelder.com/waconda_springs.htm
