119. Nicodemus Emancipation/Homecoming Celebration

July 30 took us to the Homecoming Celebration in Nicodemus. The history behind this community is very interesting.  It is a national historical site and the oldest surviving town west of the Mississippi established by African Americans.   We had the privilege of hearing the Buffalo Soldiers.  It was eye opening to hear their experiences and how differently they were treated from white soldiers.

The Homecoming Celebration has several activities you could attend in Township Hall as well as vendor and food booths, basketball game, and our son's favorite, the KU Med Tent.  Unfortunately it was a hot and sweltering day, so we did not stay to take in everything.
