57. Battle of Prairie Dog Creek

Our adventure this week took us to an interesting historical site--The Battle of Prairie Dog Creek.  We went on an adventure to find the historical marker and as well the actual location of the battle.  Our interest was peeked because Angel's family hosted the artist when he came out to do research for his painting.  Angel's Dad took the artist to the location and then took us out there this weekend.  It was interesting to see the original site

.

We had seen the painting on our journey to the National Guard Museum.  A copy of the painting, signed by the artist, has hung in Angel's family home since its completion.  It's always interesting to see how pieces of history fit together as we travel around Kansas.

Sorry about the late reply...it took me a while to remember. That marker was in Long Island, KS. Rough GPS coordinates (39.949802,-99.535606) It was kind of hidden in the shade of the tree just under the water tower. I attached a link of a "Google Earth street view." 1112 KS-383

I hope it helps.
